This is a story about magic, No. This is about ... A lady whose name was Magic.
You see, Magic had a very normal childhood, just like you and me !!! Her name created a lotsa stir though, in her school the cool boys used to sneer at her name, though she was by no means less pretty then the girls they used to hang out. But she, wasn't as they say, cool.
She was rather, herself.
Her days passed by waking up with sounds of business reports on TV, and mom's microwave hums. Then low calorie breakfasts, a quick shower, and school. In school she was the one trying to stay out of teacher's eyes, and also from the kinda crowd her parents told her not to mix with. Alone. After that she used to return to an empty home till her parents came, tired and sleepy. Yes, her TV and the internet gave her company.
She wasn't supposed to go out alone too, ofcourse the neighbourhood is brimming with nosy neighbours and bad people who just likes to catch a lone girl child, that acording to her careful parents.
So she passed her life like this, till she completed high school. Her parents wanted her to become an engineer. Preferably from an Ivy League college. So she was sent far away from her home, out in the world wher eshe never stepped out without her parents' hands, alone and directionless. For though she never wanted to go against her parents' wishes, she was coming close to a revealation that this is not what she wanted to do. But Magic was quite, sometimes very much as to making it hard understanding what she actually wants. So noone bothered to know what she wanted. And thus she went on doing what others told her to do.
But though being alone in a place far from home, pursuing a career she doesn't want and playing silent rebel-without-a-cause games with herself, the coming out came as her relief. For she learned to know the world from a different view. Not from behind the protected glares of her parents, she found the world and its meanings with a new energy. She made herself happy, though subdued, but happy. The world sarted to open up its colors to her, and she was soon grateful to her parents for giving her a new lease of life. Surely, everything about her was changing, she became more chirpy, an awefully smiling lot, more vibrant, though that silent understanding and betrayal and rebellion still accompanied her, she moved beyond being, what everyone used to say, boring.Though she never was. That's how she started to love her life more. Oh, ofcourse, and she met him.
And this might be called the turning point of the story of Magic. Coz everything turned after this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He loved magic. And he loved Magic too. But there was a series of doubt which one he loved most. He liked to stay in the world of superunknown powers, staying exulted in the knowledge that he could possess one day powers that go beyond levitating an object. And that was the world of magic and immense powers where dear Magic was catapulted into. She started loving it. She was already in love with him.
Every new day would start with him showing a new trick to her. How he learned them all was a mystery to her. He only said that he descended from the line of a very powerful magician. One who had the power that noone had. He knew the greatest magic on this earth.
Magic asked him often, "What is the greatest magic on this earth?"
He said, "I don't know yet. But everything I learned, I learned from his books. His journals. I'm still going through them, coz you see, there are volumes of them! His entire life of work. Not only his, but also his predecessors. And after five generation I'm the one who actually found them and believed in them."
That was right. He found those books when he was merely a toddler. He had this habit of hiding himself in cupboards and all unsuspecting places, just so he could avoid going to school. And there, behiond an old book shelve, he found a secret door, and he went into a hidden chamber, where there layed piles and piles of books on magic. He learned them. Practiced them. But never showed it to anyone. The day he met Magic he knew, she would be the one who'll understand.
Magic understood him. Magic was as enchanted with those magic as he was. Suddenly her normal life seemed so vague to her. Now that she has found a way into a world that is beyond everyone's imagination. Normality didn't seduced her anymore. She walked into a life full of magic and powers. And he promised her that he will teach her all of it. Just she need a little patience. She had immense of it.
One day he took her to that secret chamber. Four walls full of books and journals. He confessed he could only muster only half of one wall full of them. So there remains much much and much more of it. And somewhere along this there stands a book which captures the greatest magic on this earth.
"But what is the greatest magic on this earth?", Magic asked again, with fond adoration in her voice.
"I'll know that soon." Said he, with pride in his voice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He started to teach her. First starting with little ones, like moving a leaf with a snap of the finger. Once she will muster this, she can move onto moving a heavier object, maybe a stone, with her index finger. Ohh, how excited she was. After ten days of constant practice she finally moved a leaf, then a page of a book. She almost cried out. She called him and both of them were so happy. He and Magic, both will live in this world of magic, the outer world, that knows and wishes to know nothing about it, doesn't makes them wonder anymore. The little girl, who never saw the outside world without her parents hands, now lives in a world beyond that.
"Soon I'll marry you." said the boy one day, he was sweating and breathing heavily.
"Oh... really? I love you so much." She was almost fainting, but well, she is a magician, and they never faints.
"I love you too Magic. I know now, that after you came in my life, I'll have someone to share my magic with. I know that you'll bring me more powers. So you've."
"Oh. I love you and your powers Elliott. I believe in you. I believe in your powers."
"Magic. I know now what's the greatest magic in this world." He almost trembled while saying this.
Magic couldn't say anything. Her hands were on her mouth, and her wide surprised eyes were filled with tears.
"I knew you'll know one day. Oh El, I knew it."
"Yes Magic. I know it now. And I'm learning it. And soon, I'll be the most powerful magician in this world. Trust me Magic. We will rule the world."
"I don't want to rule the world El. If you're with me I own the world." She lied her head on his fast beating chest and weeped, happily.
"I'm always with you." said he, eyes glimming. "And soon I'll show you the greatest magic in this world."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Those who seek to muster this art must know, in their heart, they are about the change the course of nature. We magicians, though live in our own world, but we must not alter the rules of nature. Only, when absolutely necessary, should we resort to this art, known as the greatest magic of the world. Those who perfomr it, must know what they are doing, and must be aware what it might result in. Those who seek pride, should stay away from it. Those who seek fame, must not aloow themselve to get seduced by it. Those who want to help others, this selfless act must be their last refuge.
He was slowly reading out from the age old toen and weary pages. His eyes were so bright in candlelights. Once again he looked at her and started to read again.
You should know that your heart is pure, it's not succumbed into pride, greed or hatred. You should be selfless. Love for life will guide you. The key to the essence of life is in your hand. Use it with caution. For you possess the power, the greatest magic in this world. The power to give life to the dead. The power to bring someone back to life. Let your soul cast the spell in peace.
"Are you ready?" asked he, slowly, trying not to disturb the serenity of the room. He has staged the perfect atmosphere for tonight. Performing the greatest magic, the room now smells of incense that fills your heart with hope, candlelights flickering as monks performing their rites. And in the middle, lies Magic, in serene black, in peace, with love in her calm eyes.
"Yes, I'm." Maybe a moment of hesitation. "Will it be painful El?"
"No, dear. I won't let anything hurt you. I've made this potion, I found it in the books. It'll take away your breath, and you won't feel any pain. Not a tinge at all. Just swallow it, and you'll feel nothing dear. You'll die silently, peacefully. But fear not as I'll bring you back before my eye will blink even."
"Will you? Ohh, I know you can El. I've my full faith in you. I know you love me. You can't live without me El. You have to bring me back. Won't you?"
"Magic. I'ven't loved anything in this world other than you. I know I could do it. The greatest magic is in my hands now. Just this one time, I'll give you life, and then... we'll stay happily. You'll live with the greatest magician in this universe. We will live longer than anyone. We'll be immortal."
"Ohh, El. I just want you, I want you to be happy. I am doing this so that I can tell you that I've died for you, and what better will tell me that you love me so much unless you bring me back to life? I believe in you. I'm ready."
Her right hand took the potion from his hand, she tilted her slightly and swallowed it. Her loving gaze fixed on him, she took her last breath. And then she died.
"I'll bring you back to life. I'll give you a new life. I've the power, the greatest magic in my own hands. I'm the greatest, the most powerful man in this universe. I'll make you alive again. " His hands moved over her lifeless body, he uttering the spells with perfection, his hands waving the air surrounding her. One moment, two moments, three moments.....
She didn't open her eyes.
He tried it again. And again. And again. The greatest magic on earth.
You need to be selfless.
But I'm selfless. I love her. I want her back.
You must be selfless.
Don't tell me what to do. I'm selfless. I'll bring her back to life, again. I can't fail. I've the power. I'm selfless. I love her.
And her trembling hands moved over her body once again, violently, repeatedly, hopelessly. And then the candles no longer breathed their flames. It was dark.
And dear Magic never came to know if he brought her alive. For she never woke up.
Hello EW ...
Ohkayyy... I kno that wasn't convincin enuf .. !!! but still I tried. Isn't it ??
No, I'm trying to see if El gets what he is lookin for .. whether he'll die thinkin of her ... whether he will cut out his heart n put it on a tray to face magic again ... maybe that'll be another magic from his sleeves !!!
And the creator is busy in some personal stuff so he isn't going for any new posts ... and there.. is no magic dear.
The nights r simply not enuf I kno. One or Two, whatsoever. But I guess it'll be a stark contrasting one to tell that if I anytime finish my next story soon, that's gonna be another chilling one. Where the magic doesn't cast its spell on the clouds n make it a shiny day.
But no doubt, I'm still dwellin on ma darker side. And this is lotsa like Anakin Skywalker before he went on to become Darth Vader.
Cheerio
Ya ,umm ok....if someone dying in love and in trust, can be termed happy, well...
ET and El, its a perfect picture for this one, when ET is well and happy, el was and wen he gets sick, el gets too.....so it is another story of connections...I understand that very well....have you heard of something called willing death or inviting death or sadness by thinking very intensely about it.....
So ur el must die too....unless he breaks the connection with magic and magic too....that’s the offbeat side of this story....the next part too....where he rips his heart out of his ribcage, raw and red blood....n sacrifices it in a gurgling brewing pot f life....just to live...just to exist....that image calls for a sequel limey...
n in time how el chooses to sacrifice a mere existence and reunites with magic and magic too, in a different realm..a selfless warrior of light kinda…..maybe that will be the happy story to come....
And I guess in the minds of the creators of these magic tales, we all should will happiness and real magic, maybe a concentrated effort, a journey that seeks and will find, will bring a story as thus....
I hope the midnight moons burn the oils in your night lamps, and a happy magical one brews....
Since I haven’t seen any new posts...I guess one night is just not enuf....
Hi Swayam ...
It is always good to see u here ...
So u think I did a good job by killin Magic in the end??? Might be.
Yes, She died for him. What a waste. But when she closed her eyes and took her last breath atleast she had this thought in her mind that he loves her so much. She died happily. It was never meant to end this way. A love story is never meant to end this way, but again, what is a love story if there is no tragedu attached to it ??
Someone said that in order to narrate a great love story there should be aloads of tragic. Then u can realize the true magnitude of the love. I guess that was what I thought wen I wrote this.
But then, someone's love killed someone. Someone died for someone. And something died too. I remeber long time back one fellow blogger asked me how can I sleep after writing such grisly tales ??
I guess all these dead faces r starting to crowd my sleeping space for sometime.
There will be blood. And Limey just loves it that way.
Cheers.
Hi EW... again ... I won't say I wasn't hoping to face that kinda question. But I wasn't wishing on all falling stars to face it u kno !!!
There can b a truly magically innocent n heavenly love story .. n it also might not end in tragedy ... there can b dear. And I kno there r so many. Well, about in the mind of the creator .. I dunno .. maybe yer Question will ignite the night lamp to burn the moon n write a love story that .. atleast .. ends with a happy note.
There's one mo thing I wanted to say EW. And I'm saying it coz.. ok .. to b frank .. I'm cornered. I jus wanna talk about my story .. or all stories... where beneath the words there lies something else... lemme point one thing ... Elliot !!! that's the kid who was in ET. And the short form of it, El !! u'll know. and then... one thing that I wasn't willing to expose.. I didn't paint him as an innocent one. He is selfish.. who cared mo about his powers than her. Maybe he learned from her death, maybe didn't. But that's not the point.
The point is, dear, the story ended on a happy note. How ??
She died loving him, knowing that he loves her. Now isn't that a happy ending?
I'll wait for yer response. Surely.
So limey,
ur re-com to see what ya said. You can choose not to ans, I perfectly understand...coz if I was asked that question, I might chose silence over words :) Or more frankly, wud ans with a - I really don’t know...as to main aisa kyun hu :)
Things can go wrong. Even in the best of love stories.
Let me cut to the chase, cant there be a truly magically innocent love story that doesn’t end in tragedy? At least in the minds of the creators of these tales who is looking at a world that still hasn't gone to dogs? At least in stories? At least once a while...
U get me? Why is it that all those intense deep stories gravitate to tragedy? It’s as if even we don’t believe in the magic that we love so much...hai na?
Was waiting for
As nup.. says, the magic is the journey, I know that too :) And the belief, the faith and trust!
Hello EW
I liked those twists n turns. it seems U delved a bit in there. Will certainly make a point to check yer post. The thing about wat u said .. the connection of tales and the culmination of many schools of unadulterated natural some things.... yes.. I saw that .... n the thought that how innocense should be there in the minds of the creatures who loves magic n every other means to lost themselves.
She was a gal whose innocense knew no bounds. So when she found him and his power .. I'm a bit wonderin what really shook her world. But then, she wasn't into power that much. For her, love was the vital thing, the magic came second. It's like certain things that can't b described. She loved him endlessly coz he was the one who showed her the beauty she possessed, the innocense, the magic she had !!! she had all her reasons to fall in love with him. And he on the other hand was the one who fell in love with her coz she understood him. It works both ways. Both of them fell in love with each other coz they understood, they held themselves in their embrace.
Things can go wrong. Even in the best of love stories. And though, I didn't want to make magic as the central character, but no doubt it is the one thing that kept everything together, and wen the time came, it destroyed everything also. There my dear, is the tragedy. What nourishes them, also destroyes them.
it is also about a world that doesn't care to understand things beyond them, who r too busy with thwir own lives that they don't see what there is to see. That's about being blind. And they wanted to let go of this world, and make their own. Everyone wants that, don't they ?? To make a world of thir own? But there r some prices to pay. Some sacrifices needs to be done, some things needs to be left behind. I feel sad the story ended this way, but then, there was no other way I could end this.
I loved yer comment, and yer take on this.
The creator of this tale is atleast looking at a world that still hasn't gone to dogs.
Cheers
